Maurizio Cattelan transforms Tuscan garden into cemetery with 200 young artists
Maurizio Cattelan has turned the 16th-century Horti Leonini garden in San Quirico D'Orcia, Siena, into a cemetery installation titled 'Eternity'. The work features tombstones bearing names of past and present artists, including Cattelan himself with a death date of April 24, 2018. Created with students from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, where Cattelan was named honorary professor in April 2018, the installation debuted in Carrara before moving to the 48th edition of Forme nel Verde, curated by Gaia Pasi. The exhibition, titled 'Pause, tra caos e armonia', includes over 200 works by artists under 35 from Tuscan academies. Cattelan's tombstone bears the epitaph 'Alienava te Minor Stremi'. The project was supported by the municipality of San Quirico D'Orcia and includes sound works, site-specific installations, street poster art, and performances throughout the town.
