artist · 2026-05-05

Maurizio Cattelan (Padua, 1960) has unveiled Made in Catteland, a new project based on the 'art for all' concept that includes a line of museum gift shop merchandise. The first product is Museum League, a collection of scarves designed for art enthusiasts to show support for their favorite museums. The scarves feature bold color combinations, museum names, and chant-like phrases inspired by each institution's visual identity and DNA. Participating museums include MoMA, Guggenheim, New Museum, and Brooklyn Museum in New York; Pérez Art Museum Miami; Palais de Tokyo in Paris; Maxxi and Accademia di Francia in Rome; and Pirelli HangarBicocca, Fondazione Prada, and La Triennale in Milan. The scarves are produced by Italian design brand Seletti, continuing their collaboration with Cattelan following the success of the Seletti wears Toiletpaper line since 2014. Separately, Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari designed the packaging for Real Shit, an organic fertilizer created by Federico Lodolini and Riccardo Mercati, inspired by Piero Manzoni's 'Artist's Shit'. A limited edition of 200 cans sold out immediately on the Toiletpaper shop. Cattelan stated, 'everyone can be a collector', and aims to redesign museum gift shops as part of the aesthetic experience.
