Maurizio Cattelan launches global treasure hunt for three exclusive miniatures

artist · 2026-04-26

From September 30 to October 7, 2025, Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan (born 1960 in Padua) will launch a global treasure hunt titled "Dov'è Maurizio?" in collaboration with marketplace platform Avant Arte. Three limited-edition miniatures, referencing his 2000 work "La Rivoluzione Siamo Noi" and inspired by Joseph Beuys' felt suit, will be hidden in flea market stalls and antique shops worldwide, with prices ranging from €0.99 to €9,999 (about $11,772). The miniature sculpture, bearing the motto "I am not really an artist" — a twist on Beuys' "every man is an artist" — is available in an edition of 1,000 hand-painted pieces, each priced at €1,500 ($1,766) and sold via a random draw on Avant Arte's website until October 24. Each work is individually numbered and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. Avant Arte will publish two daily clues on its site about the hidden sculptures' locations. Mazdak Sanii, CEO and co-founder of Avant Arte, expressed excitement about this first collaboration with Cattelan, describing it as the start of a series of limited editions inspired by Cattelan's historic Guggenheim exhibition "All." The hunt begins in New York at the end of September.
