Maurizio Cattelan and Nicolas Ballario Host Breakfast Flash Mob in Piazza Duomo

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

On Wednesday, April 2, at 7 AM, artist Maurizio Cattelan and critic Nicolas Ballario will host a public breakfast in Milan's Piazza Duomo, dubbed "the first breakfast protest in Milan's history." The event, titled "La fine allegra" (The Happy Ending), is timed to coincide with Milan Art Week. It originated from a fictional article in Living Corriere della Sera that claimed Cattelan and Ballario met daily for breakfast in the square. After an unannounced trial run during Salone del Mobile 2024 drew about 150 participants and an online audience, the duo decided to formalize the gathering. This year's edition will feature themed signs with slogans such as "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine," "Memento Mori," and "Keep smile and die." The event is supported by Living and the Museo del Novecento, and is open to all.
