Maude Maris: From Digital Compositions to Sculptural Traces
Born in 1980 in Caen, France, Maude Maris shifted her artistic practice from digital manipulation to the creation of physical objects after completing her studies at the École des Beaux-Arts de Caen in 2003. A pivotal year at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Hubert Kiecol redirected her interest towards architecture. She began sourcing images online, which inspired her to craft physical pieces from discarded toys and materials, painting and arranging them in three-walled boxes. Recently, she has eliminated the walls, allowing natural light to enhance the experience. Maris resides and works in Caen. Her recent solo shows include Galerie Hypertopie, Abbaye-aux-Dames, Caen (2012) and Galerie du Haut-Pavé, Paris, along with group exhibitions like Novembre à Vitry and 57e Salon de Montrouge, both in 2012.
