Mattia Barbieri on Painting as Language and Process

artist · 2026-04-27

Born in Brescia in 1985, Mattia Barbieri divides his time between Milan and New York. He is an alumnus of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. His notable solo exhibitions include "Due * The Full Frontal" and "The Butter Monk" at Pablo's Birthday in New York (2017 and 2019, respectively), along with "Le stelle senza il tramonto" at Palazzo Ranzanici in Brescia (2017). Barbieri received the Primo Premio Pittura from the Museo di Lissone and worked with Progetto Città Ideale during Expo Milano 2015. He perceives painting as an inherited practice from his grandfather, creating series such as "Naive Melody" and "Eterno85," and also crafts sculptures from plaster, cement, and painted wood, viewing painting as a means to convey reality.
