Matthew Perry overdose: drug counsellor sentenced to two years
Erik Fleming, aged 56 and a drug addiction counselor, has received a two-year prison sentence linked to the overdose death of Matthew Perry, a star from Friends. In August 2024, Fleming admitted guilt to a charge of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. He obtained the anesthetic from Jasveen Sangha, dubbed the 'Ketamine Queen,' and provided it to Perry. A federal judge also mandated three years of supervised release along with a $200 fine. Perry was discovered deceased in his backyard jacuzzi in southern California in October 2023, with ketamine as the cause of death. Prosecutors requested a 30-month sentence, while Fleming's defense proposed three months in prison and nine months of residential treatment. On Wednesday, he expressed to Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett, "It's truly a nightmare I can't wake up from." Fleming, the fourth of five defendants sentenced, expressed profound regret in a letter to the judge. In December, Sangha received a 15-year sentence, Dr. Salvador Plasencia was sentenced to 30 months, and Dr. Mark Chavez to eight months of home detention. Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry's assistant, is set for sentencing on May 27.
