Matteo Ward sulla moda sostenibile: tra direttive UE e cambiamento culturale
In an interview, Matteo Ward, CEO of WRÅD and an activist, addresses the obstacles faced by sustainable fashion. The European Green Deal was introduced in December 2019, six years after the Rana Plaza disaster in April 2013, which resulted in 1,100 fatalities. Since 2020, various directives have been implemented, including EPR, Ecodesign, Green Claims, CSDDD, Right to Repair, and Empowering Consumers. Ward highlights that the textile industry ranks as the second most polluting sector globally. He has served as an Expert Consultant for the New European Bauhaus, focusing on sustainable fashion and textiles. While he acknowledges advancements in innovative materials, he critiques the overconsumption and overproduction business model. He believes Orsola De Castro and Carry Somers of Fashion Revolution have influenced the CSDDD and suggests three areas for intervention: political lobbying, corporate awareness, and public opinion. He emphasizes the need for funding and subsidies for businesses. Ward raises concerns about a 40% rise in contact dermatitis cases and the dangers posed by microplastics, PFAS, antimony, cadmium, mercury, and lead. During his travels with Junk in Ghana, Chile, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, and Italy, he witnessed how systemic poverty exacerbates pollution. He advocates for a global wealth redistribution and fair wages. His book, 'FUORIMODA!', is published by DeAgostini Mondadori.
