Matteo Messori's 'Status' at Nero La Factory, Pescara
Matteo Messori (Reggio Emilia, 1993) presents 'Status' at Nero La Factory in Pescara, a solo exhibition born from lockdown constraints. Originally conceived as a residency outcome, the show was instead developed through online dialogue, with all works bearing marks of closure. Materials include glass, tufa blocks, medical gauze canvases, marble slabs, and cement scraps. The exhibition features twelve works where painting and sculpture merge, following a poor art (Arte Povera) tradition. Messori continues his exploration of 'antiform', referencing Robert Morris's Process Art, with a recurring graphic motif that adapts to relational contexts. The artist's formal and chromatic essentialism echoes Giorgio Morandi's still lifes. Key pieces include two large octagonal glass works with geometric solids inserted into soft organic forms, and three totemic towers titled 'Formastante' made from tiles, marble slabs, and tufa blocks, bound by painted antiform profiles. The show represents a progression in Messori's career, using painting as a glue for sculpture, with line moving across flat surfaces and invading objects to order chaos.
