Matteo Lucchetti Appointed Curator at BAK Utrecht

Matteo Lucchetti has been named Exhibitions and Public Programs curator at BAK (Basis voor Actuele Kunst) in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Lucchetti, an Italian curator previously praised for his work at the Quadriennale di Roma, began his international career in 2009 with an internship at BAK. He returns eight years later to take on this role. BAK, located in Utrecht's historic center, is dedicated to contemporary art. Under the artistic direction of Maria Hlavajova and executive director Arjan Van Meeuwen, BAK is set to become the first Dutch institution to receive joint funding for both its exhibition program and a new postgraduate fellowship format. Lucchetti emphasizes that these two components will be integrated, providing economic and intellectual support to artists and curators as a statement of the institution's role in the current context. He hopes this model will influence other contemporary art centers to operate as spaces of production and research. His program begins in September, and he aims to bring his Italian and international network to serve this new institutional vision. Lucchetti joins a wave of Italian curators moving abroad, following Eugenio Viola in Australia and Lorenzo Benedetti in Switzerland.
