Matteo Garrone's short film for Dior Cruise 2026 evokes Roman cinema ghosts
Director Matteo Garrone has created a short film titled "Les Fantômes du Cinéma" for Dior's Cruise 2026 collection, presented at Villa Albani Torlonia in Rome. The film pays homage to great Roman cinema figures, evoking imagery from Fellini, Visconti, and Pasolini. Ghostly figures in costumes inspired by those directors accompany models wearing the new collection. This is the latest collaboration between Garrone and Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, following earlier films "Le Mythe Dior" (2020) and "Le Château du Tarot" (2021). Chiuri describes the collection as a "temporal place where the act of imagination unfolds," referencing Ennio Flaiano's proposed title for Fellini's "8½." The setting, Villa Albani Torlonia, recalls patron Mimì Pecci Blunt, who created a theater in the park of Villa Reale di Marlia and founded the Teatro della Cometa in Rome in 1958, which Chiuri later restored. The collection blends epic costume history pieces with contemporary interpretations, creating a dialogue between past, present, and future.
