Matteo Garrone's 'Io Capitano' Screening Tour in Senegal

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

Matteo Garrone's film 'Io Capitano', which won the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 80th Venice Film Festival and is nominated for the Oscar for Best International Feature, will be screened across Senegal in April 2024. The tour, titled 'Vengo anch'io', is organized by Cinemovel Foundation. A van equipped as a mobile cinema will travel from Dakar to Mboro and through Casamance, stopping in Thiès, Kolda, Sédhiou, and Ziguinchor, engaging schools and local communities. The initiative aims to foster dialogue on migration, reversing the typical perspective of Mediterranean crossings. Cinemovel Foundation, which began its African projects in Mozambique in 2001 with an AIDS awareness campaign, has had a special relationship with Senegal since 2010, where it organizes the Mboro Film Festival.
