Matteo Costanzo's CTRL+Z at Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata

Matteo Costanzo (Rome, 1985) presents CTRL+Z, a solo exhibition at the piano nobile of Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata, awarded the Premio Pannaggi/Nuova Generazione 2025. Curated by Paola Ballesi, the show explores perception and reality, addressing precariousness, information overload, and the fragile materiality of images in the age of social media and AI. The title references the digital undo command, suggesting art, memory, and communication are inherently unstable. Costanzo accumulates images as data, using collage, sticker-painting, video, and installations with materials like liquid plastic and acrylic paint. The works convey abundance and fragmentation, layering and repeating images from the web and media. The installation creates a dialogue with the Baroque setting of Palazzo Buonaccorsi, contrasting historical composure with contemporary unease. In the Galleria dell’Eneide, Costanzo's 'baroque' installation engages with the space, showing both contrast and continuity. The exhibition is not nostalgic but invites critical and ironic awareness of the present, rethinking our relationship with visibility, information, and representation.
