Mattel and Warhol Foundation Launch Third Barbie Doll Inspired by Warhol's 1986 Portrait
Mattel, in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation, has released the third doll in The Barbie Collection, a series of Barbie dolls inspired by Andy Warhol. The new doll features a gown printed with Warhol's 1986 portrait of Barbie Peaches'n Cream, which was commissioned by Mattel and is housed at its California headquarters. The outfit includes a pink fur stole lined in blue, referencing Warhol's contrasting lithograph colors, and blue stiletto heels covered in glitter, echoing his Diamond Dust series of shoes. The doll also includes original accessories from the Peaches'n Cream line. The first two dolls in the series were released in 2015 and 2016: one styled as a female version of Warhol with platinum hair, a motorcycle jacket, and artist tools; the other as a 1970s New York City Barbie with animal-print fur, black leggings, white boots, and a Campbell's Soup t-shirt. The dolls are priced between $50 and $100 and are available online.
