MATTA Gallery Opens New Milan Space with Maximilian Arnold Show

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Milan-based nomadic gallery MATTA, founded in 2022 by Giulio Rampoldi, Pierfrancesco Petracchi, and Pietro Rossi, is opening a new permanent space in the Solari district at Via Privata Giacomo Favretto 9. The gallery previously occupied the ground floor of Palazzo INA in Corso Sempione, designed by architect Piero Bottoni. The new location, significantly larger, will allow the gallery to host multidisciplinary events. The inaugural exhibition, titled "Freed From Desire," opens March 27, 2025, featuring German artist Maximilian Arnold (born 1987 in Heidelberg). The show presents large paintings exploring fragmentation and image transformation through collage and painting, accompanied by a critical text by Pier Francesco Petracchi. Arnold previously exhibited with MATTA in Rome in 2022 at Via della Mercede 12. On April 5, 2025, during Milan Art Week, the space will host a musical event presenting "The Bad Plug" by MACHOMAN. The gallery has planned a two-to-three-year program of exhibitions and events, though the founders remain flexible about the duration of their stay in the Solari area.
