Matt's Gallery to relocate to Wandsworth in 2019, leaving east London after decades
Matt's Gallery will move from its long-time east London location on Copperfield Road to a new 9,000sqft space in Wandsworth, south-west London, with the transition planned for 2019. Founder Robin Klassnik announced the relocation, as reported by Art Monthly. The gallery, established in 1979 on Martello Street in Hackney, has been at its current venue since 1993, operating as a charitable Friendly Society. It represents artists such as Benedict Drew, Nathaniel Mellors, Mike Nelson, and David Osbaldeston, whose exhibition The Top & Bottom of It is currently on view. A temporary space of 2,000 to 3,000sqft elsewhere in London is sought for a move starting in May 2016. The gallery's name originates from Klassnik's dog. The announcement was made on 1 February 2016.
