Matt Keegan on North Drive Press, Queer Panels, and Collaborative Art
Matt Keegan discusses his artist publication North Drive Press, now in its third issue with co-editor Sara Greenberger Rafferty and design collaborator Susan Barber. The publication, a box of loose contents, has grown to over thirty contributors without strict editorial parameters. Keegan organized a queer-themed panel at Greene Naftali Gallery in December 2003, responding to shows like Today's Man at John Connelly Presents, My People Were Fair… curated by Bob Nickas at Team, and DL: The 'Down Low' in Contemporary Art curated by Edwin Ramoran at Longwood Arts Project. Panelists included John Connelly, Edwin Ramoran, Scott Hug, Ginger Brooks Takahashi, Carrie Moyer, AA Bronson, and moderator José Muñoz. Keegan founded Public-Holiday Projects in 2004 with Rachel Foullon and Laura Kleger, which staged its first museum exhibition in Cincinnati. His two-part exhibition 'How to Make a Portrait' at White Columns and Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery featured his father. Earlier, he created Electa Rayon is 90 Years Old for his grandmother's 90th birthday, a performance at Union Square. Keegan seeks collaborative modes of exchange less contingent on commercial markets.
