Matías Duville to Represent Argentina at 2026 Venice Biennale with Salt and Charcoal Installation
Matías Duville is set to showcase his work "Monitor Yin Yang" at the Argentina Pavilion in the Arsenale during the 61st Venice Biennale, which runs from 9 May to 22 November 2026. This installation, crafted from salt and charcoal, offers a walkable landscape that transforms drawing into an immersive spatial, auditory, and temporal experience. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes of Mar del Plata and Patagonia, it aligns with the theme "In Minor Keys." Curated by Josefina Barcia and backed by Barro Gallery, Duville's project features a multidisciplinary team. He acknowledges the impact of Argentine artists such as Cándido López, Lucio Fontana, Guillermo Kuitca, and Adrián Villar Rojas, highlighting the importance of adaptability and collaboration in a volatile environment. This interview is part of ArtReview's Biennale series in collaboration with Versace.
