Mathew Hale's 'Facts of Life' Drawings on View at Sperling, Munich

exhibition · 2026-08-18

This summer, the Sperling gallery in Munich is hosting an exhibition by Mathew Hale, titled 'Facts of Life,' showcasing 400 free drawings. The pieces reflect Hale’s unique creative space and explore childhood themes through surprising imagery that he describes as simultaneously beautiful and unsettling. Drawing inspiration from artist Bruno Schultz, Hale considers his identity as an artist. In addition, X Artists' Books will publish 'FACTS OF LIFE: Drawn from Forgetfulness by Mathew (and Mummy),' featuring contributions from Rye Dag Holmboe and Julie Mehretu. The concept of 'free drawing' originates from artist Marion Milner, who worked with Hale during the 1990s.
