Materia Design Festival 2018: PASTmeetsFUTURE in Catanzaro

The third edition of MATERIA Design Festival, themed “PASTmeetsFUTURE,” will take place in Catanzaro from September 20 to 23, 2018. Organized by Officine AD, the studio of architects Domenico Garofalo and Giuseppe Anania, the festival aims to create new connections between craftsmanship and design, valorizing products that bridge tradition and innovation. The four-day program includes a show for young Italian designers who draw on artisanal techniques or cultural heritage, local showrooms and companies, talks with design personalities such as Compasso d'Oro winners Setsu and Shinobu Ito, Israeli designer Ronen Joseph, and circular design expert Giorgio Caporaso. Workshops will be led by Domenico Gioia and artist Massimo Sirelli. New this year is the curation by Sergio Fabio Rotella, a designer from Catanzaro with studios in Milan and Beijing, along with two collateral exhibitions: DesignMadeInCalabria, featuring collaborations between international designers and local artisans, and SouvenirCalabria, reinterpreting traditional objects in a contemporary language. The festival is part of a broader cultural revitalization in Calabria, including initiatives like BoCs Art, Officine del Carmine, Crossing Belmonte, and the Dadada Beach Museum.
