Matera's MAtera INtermedia Festival: Interview with Giulio Colangelo

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

The MAtera INtermedia festival, dedicated to electronic music, sound, and video art and curated by LOXOSconcept, wrapped up on December 6, 2017, in Matera, which will be the European Capital of Culture in 2019. Giulio Colangelo, a member of LOXOSconcept and composer, shared insights into the festival's objectives. Over the course of three days, attendees enjoyed six concerts, a sound installation called Midnight Sound by Roberta Platania, and a listening/visual room at Fondazione Sassi. A jury evaluated nearly 400 submissions in 2016 and similar figures in 2017. Colangelo highlighted the importance of intermediality, focusing on the intersections of different media. The festival concluded at Casa Cava, with the collective planning "futuro remoto" for Matera 2019, emphasizing the Palombaro Lungo.
