Matera Hosts Artist Residency Summit, Drafts Charter for Formal Recognition

On November 15-16, 2019, Matera hosted a two-day event named "Come&Seed – Coltivare nuovi modelli di residenza," part of the European Capital of Culture 2019 initiative. This conference, organized by Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019, featured nine winning groups from the Avviso Pubblico Residenze Matera Basilicata 2019, alongside projects like AltoFest Matera Basilicata 2019, Gardentopia, and Matera Alberga. The event culminated in the creation of the Carta di Matera, which calls for the formal acknowledgment of artist residencies by institutions, particularly the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (MiBACT). This charter was forwarded to MiBACT, which pledged to incorporate residencies into the "Luoghi del contemporaneo" platform in 2020, with various organizations and international bodies as signatories.
