Matera Exhibition Marks Centenary of Rocco Scotellaro

The Museo Nazionale di Matera is currently featuring an exhibition titled 'Sempre nuovo è… Scotellaro – Al bivio,' celebrating Rocco Scotellaro's centenary, who was a writer, poet, and the former mayor of Tricarico. Running from April 21 to June 5, 2023, at the Chiesa del Cristo Flagellato in the Ex Ospedale San Rocco—famous for Scotellaro's 1950 imprisonment—the show includes a terracotta bust by Giuseppe Antonello Leone, along with letters, vintage photos, and a 1963 Rai documentary. It also presents ten photocollages by Mario Cresci and 40 plates from Giuseppe Palumbo's comic 'Uno si distrae al bivio.' The exhibition highlights Scotellaro's relationships with figures like Luigi Guerricchio and Carlo Levi, who painted his portrait. It wraps up with 'sentimental portraits' from five rising Lucanian artists.
