Matera 2019 Volunteer Army: Over 300 Join European Capital of Culture

Over 300 volunteers from diverse backgrounds have enthusiastically responded to the call launched during the early stages of Matera's journey to become European Capital of Culture. Their energy was celebrated at the Volunteer Festival on February 19 at Palasassi, featuring musical performances by Roy Paci and John Lui with L-Train, and artistic interventions by street artists Caktus & Maria, DPC, Gods in Love, and Daniele Geniale, who painted the exterior walls alongside students from Liceo Artistico “Carlo Levi” and Scuola Primaria dell’Istituto Comprensivo “Giovanni Pascoli”. The festival also announced two Matera 2019 volunteers who will participate in the International Theatre Festival of Sibiu, Romania, from June 8 to 17, an event bringing together hundreds of volunteers from France, Georgia, Hungary, Russia, Iran, China, Japan, South Korea, and America to foster connections across different backgrounds and experiences, strengthening the idea of community.
