Matera 2019 unveils Materadio 2016 program focused on Utopia and Dystopia
Matera 2019, designated as the European Capital of Culture, unveiled the lineup for the 2016 Materadio festival, which carries the theme Utopia and Dystopia, marking the 500th anniversary of Thomas More's Utopia. Notable performances will feature Stefano Bollani and Nicola Campogrande, along with reflections from Gianfranco Baruchello. Peppe Servillo will present readings from Italo Calvino, while Franco Farinelli will lead discussions and physicist Guido Tonelli will share his insights. Events are scheduled to take place at Casa Cava and Piazzetta San Pietro Barisano. Baruchello has been honored as artist of the year for his graphic interpretation of utopia on postcards. Marino Sinibaldi, director of RAI Radio3, mentioned Adriano Olivetti's views on utopia. Concerns arise as Basilicata could see a 20% population decline by 2035, risking Matera's livability.
