Matera 2019: three art events not to miss this weekend

This weekend in Matera, as part of the European Capital of Culture 2019 program, three key events are on offer. In the province of Potenza, the towns of Avigliano and Acerenza host 'Capitale per un giorno' with guided tours, workshops, and concerts from August 1 to 5. At the 18th-century Chiesa del Purgatorio, artist Alfonso Borghi (born 1944 in Campegine, Reggio Emilia) presents 'Dentro silenzi solenni', an exhibition of about 20 abstract expressionist works inspired by Matera, running from August 3 to 31, curated by Daniela Brignon. Meanwhile, the Fondazione SoutHeritage presents 'Hypógheios', a double solo show by Tomaso Binga and Maurizio Mochetti, curated by Antonello Tolve, at Palazzo Viceconte (former Museo per la Fotografia Pino Settanni) from August 8 to September 15, part of the 'Padiglioni Invisibili' project reactivating underground spaces in the Sassi districts.
