Matera 2019: I-DEA Project Launches with Four-Exhibition Series on Archives

exhibition · 2026-05-04

I-DEA, a key initiative of Matera 2019, offers an artistic exploration of Basilicata's archives and collections. This project features four unique exhibitions, each overseen by a different artist or designer, utilizing materials sourced from regional archives identified by the University of Basilicata. The inaugural exhibition, 'Le Due Culture. Artefatti e Archivi,' curated by Mario Cresci, includes contributions from various archives such as the Museo di Artigianato Locale and the Fondazione Pirelli. It spans the latter half of the 20th century into the early 21st, merging photography, craftsmanship, science, and technology. Future exhibitions will be curated by Formafantasma, Navine Khan-Dossos and James Bridle, and Liam Gillick, with a modular design by Open Design School. A significant highlight is the 'Civiltà delle macchine' magazine, established by Leonardo Sinisgalli from 1953 to 1958.
