Matali Crasset's 'Voyage en uchronie' at Thaddaeus Ropac
Industrial designer Matali Crasset opens a new exhibition at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Pantin, her fifth show at the gallery. Titled 'Voyage en uchronie' (Voyage in Uchronia), the exhibition is divided into two parts: 'Les Permanents' (The Permanents), a frozen community of objects, and a film of the same name made with editor Juli Susin. The film, shot in a forest, features paper versions of the Permanents and references Andrei Tarkovsky, the Strugatsky brothers, and Pythagoras. Crasset, who entered design through contemporary art, conceives objects as 'scenarii of life' and has worked as a scenographer. She also mentors for Samsung's Launching People competition. The exhibition includes a river drawn on the floor and a cargo piece from 2011. Crasset's recent projects include hotels in Tunisia (Dar Hi) and Senegal, and educational spaces like the Maison des petits at Centquatre in Paris.
