Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace on Show at Queen's Gallery London

exhibition · 2026-04-27

For the first time in 45 years, 65 paintings from the Royal Collection, typically displayed in Buckingham Palace's Picture Gallery, have been relocated to the Queen's Gallery, coinciding with renovations at the palace and the Queen's stay at Windsor. The exhibition titled 'Masterpieces from Buckingham Palace' commenced on December 4, 2020, and will continue until January 31, 2022. These artworks were originally housed in the palace following its acquisition by King George III and Queen Charlotte in 1762, with renovations made by George IV and architect John Nash in 1820. The exhibition features three themed rooms: the blue room showcases Dutch and Flemish art from 1630-1680, the green room displays large Dutch landscapes and portraits, and the red room highlights Italian pieces from 1510-1740. Notable artists include Titian, Rembrandt, and Vermeer, with highlights like Canaletto's views of Venice and Rubens' 'Milkmaids with Cattle in a Landscape'. An online virtual tour is also offered.
