exhibition · 2026-04-27

The MAST Photography Grant on Industry and Work has announced its seventh edition winner: Moroccan photographer Hicham Gardaf, born in 1989 in Tangier. South African artist Lebohang Kganye, born in 1990, received a special mention. The exhibition at Fondazione MAST in Bologna also showcases the three other finalists—Farah Al Qasimi, Maria Mavropoulou, and Salvatore Vitale. Curated by Urs Stahel, this event celebrates MAST's tenth anniversary and the competition's fifteen-year history, featuring works from all finalists and winners since 2008. The jury, which included Isabella Seràgnoli and others, selected Gardaf from an initial pool of 53 candidates. His project, In Praise of Slowness, juxtaposes a bleach seller with contrasting urban and historic scenes. Vitale's work examines the gig economy's ties to mining in Gauteng, South Africa.
