Massive Attack and Tom Waits release protest song 'Boots On The Ground' criticizing Trump policies

Musicians Massive Attack and Tom Waits have released a collaborative track titled 'Boots On The Ground' after more than a decade without new material. The song's video condemns U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and what they describe as state authoritarianism. Opening with the agitated breathing of someone being assaulted, the work references the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 5, 2020, and recent ICE raids in migrant communities. Robert del Naja of Massive Attack was previously arrested at pro-Palestinian protests in London, stating his opposition to genocide. The artists frame their release as occurring during a period of emergency, targeting what they call the neofascist politics of Donald Trump. Their message highlights the militarization of national security forces and the killing of civilians protecting migrants.
