Massimo Sansavini's migrant boat sculptures reopen Fondazione Zoli in Forlì

exhibition · 2026-05-05

After a two-year hiatus, the Fondazione Dino Zoli in Forlì reopens in early March with 'Touroperator', a solo exhibition by Massimo Sansavini featuring sculptures made from the hulls of migrant boats recovered from the 'cemetery' in Lampedusa. Each work bears the date of a shipwreck, using the actual wood from the vessels. The project began in September 2015 when the Court of Agrigento first authorized an artist to collect confiscated boat fragments from the former US base Loran in Lampedusa. The exhibition will travel from the Musei San Domenico in Forlì to the European Parliament in Brussels, then return to the Fondazione Zoli and the Palazzo della Regione in Bologna, in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna region. The foundation also launched an educational program in schools to engage with second-generation migrants. The non-profit foundation, part of the Dino Zoli group active in real estate, food & wine, textiles, and engineering, has a long-standing commitment to social issues.
