Massimo Grimaldi's Monogatari at MAO Torino

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Massimo Grimaldi (Taranto, 1974) presents Monogatari, a photographic reportage from Japan (2017–2018), at t-space X MAO, Museo di Arte Orientale di Torino, in collaboration with Galleria Zero… Milano. The project, supported by the On Demand by Snaporazverein prize, translates intimate emotions into a collective experience. Two screens juxtapose images of mecha robots, schoolgirls, urban traffic, nature, and Buddhist idols, exploring Japan's coexistence of tradition and technology. Nami Kodama performs ikebana flower arrangements with calla lilies and papyrus, adding shadow and light play. The exhibition spans Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
