Massimo De Carlo Gallery Transforms Milan Sidewalk into Green Space

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Milan's prominent gallery Massimo De Carlo has converted a 130-square-meter area of sidewalk in front of its Casa Corbellini-Wassermann location into a green space planted with hydrangeas and camellias to attract bees and biodiversity. The project, designed by Studio Binocle (which also restored the building), replaces illegally parked cars with a public garden. The initiative is part of the City of Milan's "Cura e Adotta il Verde Pubblico" program, which encourages private entities to adopt and maintain small green areas. The gallery is a sponsor of the program. The inauguration took place on May 4, 2022, with the presence of Milan's Culture Councillor Tommaso Sacchi. The gallery has been located at Casa Corbellini-Wassermann in the Città Studi district since 2019; the building was designed in the 1930s by architect Piero Portaluppi.
