Massimo Contrasto: A Tribute to Massimo Cittadini in Carrara
The Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara presents Massimo Contrasto, a project dedicated to Massimo Cittadini (1959–2024), artist, professor, and co-founder of the Scuola di Nuove Tecnologie dell'Arte. Curated by Clemente Pestelli, Lorenzo Antei, and Sara Molho, the initiative spans two study days (May 11–12, 2026), an exhibition, and a multimedia publication. The study days feature panels on media activism, interactive art politics, and digital preservation, with remote participation and a broadcasting experiment by THE VOID, an expanded publishing platform from the Institute of Network Cultures in Amsterdam. The exhibition at Ex Paretra (May 11–31) contextualizes Cittadini's work within the 1990s–2000s electronic and media art scene, especially the Florentine DIY environment. The multimedia publication will compile panel contributions, interviews, archival materials, and documentation. The project is part of C.O.M. (City Open Museum), a transmedia, multimodal, interactive diffuse art initiative led by the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, aiming to enhance Italian artistic heritage and transform cities into a common creative space.
