Massimo Bottura Opens Hotel Maria Luigia, a Contemporary Art Haven in Modena

Chef Massimo Bottura and his wife Lara Gilmore are set to open Hotel Maria Luigia, a boutique resort in the Modena countryside that doubles as a contemporary art museum. The 12-room villa, named after Bottura's mother, features works from the couple's extensive collection, including pieces by Ai Weiwei, Damien Hirst, Maurizio Cattelan, Andy Warhol, Cindy Sherman, and Joseph Beuys. Guests will find art in every room, along with Lambrusco and Parmigiano Reggiano upon arrival. The hotel also offers a pool, tennis court, music room, and preferred access to Bottura's three-Michelin-star Osteria Francescana. Room rates start at €450 per night. Bottura, a passionate collector, previously opened a restaurant at Gucci Garden in Florence and will launch Torno Subito at W Dubai – The Palm, named after Cattelan's 1989 work. In April 2018, Bottura received an honorary degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, which also named Cattelan honorary professor in sculpture.
