MASI Lugano Announces 2025 Exhibition Program Featuring Swiss Artists

The MASI Lugano has unveiled its 2025 exhibition program, running from February 2025 across its two venues, LAC and Palazzo Reali. The season opens on February 16 with "Louisa Gagliardi: Many Moons" at LAC, featuring new paintings and sculptures by the Sion-born artist (b. 1989) exploring nature, urban space, and social relations. In spring, from April 13 to August 10, LAC hosts a major comparative exhibition of around 80 works by Ferdinand Hodler (Bern, 1853–Geneva, 1918) and Filippo Franzoni (Locarno, 1857–Mendrisio, 1911), highlighting their friendship and stylistic convergences and divergences between 1870 and 1910. Autumn brings a retrospective of Richard Paul Lohse (Zurich, 1902–1988) from September 7 to November 11, his first in over twenty years. On September 28, "Carona. Il Paradiso Perduto 1968–1978: David Weiss e gli Artisti di Casa Aprile" opens at LAC, celebrating the artistic and literary community that gathered at Meret Oppenheim's (Berlin, 1913–Basel, 1985) Casa Aprile in Carona. At Palazzo Reali, from March 16 to October 12, "Oltre il Malcantone" presents around 90 photographic works by Eugenio Schmidhauser (Seon, 1876–Astano, 1952), in collaboration with the Archivio di Stato del Canton Ticino. Additionally, the collection show "Sentimento e osservazione. Arte in Ticino 1850-1950" at LAC traces the evolution of art in Ticino with loaned works. The program emphasizes Swiss art, historical influences, and contemporary dynamics specific to the Ticino region.
