Masastudio Designs New Six-Bedroom Villa at Utah's Amangiri Resort

Los Angeles-based architecture firm Masastudio has finished construction on a private six-bedroom villa at the Amangiri resort in Utah. The 12,001-square-foot residence is the first in a series of villas designed by the studio's founders, Marwan Al-Sayed and Mies Anderson, who also created the original resort in 2009. Located on the resort's desert property near Page, Arizona, the villa is positioned against a rock escarpment for privacy and is influenced by the area's dramatic sandstone formations, slot canyons, and natural landmarks like Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon. The architecture features a minimalist style with concrete mixed with local sand to blend into the landscape. Key design elements include narrow skylights and voids that reference canyon light, an outdoor terrace with a 35-meter swimming pool and conversation pit, and interiors with blond wood and neutral furniture. The villa includes an artwork by Ulrike Arnold, Amangiri's artist-in-residence, above the fireplace. The design aims to create a spa-like experience while complementing the surrounding terrain, with features like retractable glass walls in guest suites and monolithic vertical elements for temperature regulation. Residents have access to main resort amenities, including fitness and spa facilities. Masastudio previously collaborated with Kelly Wearstler on a California home project.
