Marzia Migliora's Community-Driven Tute Installations at Palazzo Abatellis
Marzia Migliora's exhibition 'Minuto Mantenimento' at Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo transforms workwear into intimate survival kits, born from workshops with individuals under external penal execution through the UIEPE program. The project, part of the social initiative 'Spazio Acrobazie' curated by Elisa Fulco and Antonio Leone, features five surreal work suits—each a portable archive of tools, memories, and dialogues. The suits were produced with contributions from the Museo Internazionale delle Marionette, the Teatro Massimo's tailoring department, Ferrino, and the social tailoring workshop Al Revés. The exhibition engages directly with the museum's iconic fresco 'The Triumph of Death,' using its memento mori as a backdrop for reflections on labor, resilience, and community. Migliora's works include five black-and-white monotypes as maps of the creative process, and a display of preparatory drawings, artifacts, and sculptures inspired by the fresco's dogs. The suits address themes of shelter, landscape, care, theater, and writing, with survival kits referencing the fresco's iconography. The project underscores the rehabilitative role of work within Italy's penal system, positioning art as a tool for social reintegration and existential inquiry.
