Mary Ann Strandell's Fragonard Room in Symbiotaxiplasm at SS Projects Through February 16

Mary Ann Strandell presents The Fragonard Room, a hypertextual fusion of postmodern and Rococo aesthetics, as part of the exhibition Symbiotaxiplasm curated by Savannah Spirit at SS Projects. The installation features a large ink drawing applied directly to the wall, depicting the period room of the same name at the Frick Collection with feathery strokes, serving as a backdrop for Strandell's 3D Lenticular prints that explore hyperspace worlds. In her statement, Strandell describes the work as a symbiotaxiplasm experience that pauses on cultural memes, both utopic and dystopic, from an age of comfort. The exhibition runs from January 19 to February 16, 2012, at 547 West 27th Street #210 in New York City, between 10th and 11th avenues. Other artists in the show include Man Bartlett, Colin Kilian, Anne Arden MacDonald, Bradford Reed, and an anonymous contributor who created an olfactorily exquisite scent installation. The event highlights a collaborative exploration of mixed media and historical references in a contemporary art context.
