Marvel's Moon Knight Series Debuts on Disney+ with Egyptian Setting

The new Marvel Cinematic Universe series 'Moon Knight' premiered on Disney+ on March 30, 2022. Directed by Mohamed Diab, the show stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift shop worker who shares his psyche with the mercenary Marc Spector. The series marks the MCU's first foray into Egyptian mythology, featuring gods and magic. Diab, an Egyptian director, was drawn to the project because it portrays Egypt authentically, avoiding the exoticism typical of Hollywood. The cast includes Ethan Hawke as antagonist Arthur Harrow and May Calamawy as Layla. The series explores mental health through an unreliable narrator, with the hero suffering from dissociative identity disorder. Hawke noted that unlike typical narratives where villains are mentally unstable, here the hero is the one with mental illness. The show balances dark themes with humor, similar to 'WandaVision' in its character-driven storytelling.
