Martos Gallery's Annual Art Commune Relocates to North Fork for Intimate Summer Exhibition
For its 2014 summer exhibition, Martos Gallery relocated its annual contemporary art commune to a 4.5-hectare property in East Marion, Long Island. The gallery owner, Jose Martos, along with artist Servane Mary and their children, resided on-site, fostering a close-knit environment. Curated by Bob Nickas, the exhibition showcased 110 artworks throughout Martos's Victorian residence. Personal collections by Kelley Walker and Walead Beshty were displayed on the first floor, while the second floor featured beach-themed sculptures curated by Carol Bove. Ryan Foerster managed the basement and garage areas. Additionally, the outdoor sculpture park presented pieces by Wayne Gonzales and Greely Myatt. The exhibition lasted the entire summer, highlighted by Jason Metcalf's Flag of the Kingdom of Deseret (2014).
