Martino Midali opens three boutiques in Spain

Milanese fashion designer Martino Midali, known for pioneering the use of knitwear, cotton jersey, and viscose for jackets, skirts, and trousers, and for championing elastic waistbands, has expanded into Spain. On September 8, 2018, he inaugurated two boutiques in Madrid: one on Claudio Coello street in the Milla de Oro luxury shopping district, and another on calle Barquillo in Chueca, the contemporary art gallery neighborhood. A third store opened on September 17 on calle Provença in Barcelona's Ensanche district, near Paseo de Graçia. The three concept stores are minimally designed to appeal to women seeking informal, practical elegance. Midali, who first exported to New York in the mid-1980s with two boutiques on Madison Avenue and Columbus Street, refocused on Italy after 9/11. His brand now employs about 200 people, sells 300,000 garments annually across 60 mono-brand boutiques in Italy, and targets women aged 35 to 80, sizes S to XL. The five lines under his name are Martino Midali, Midali Toujours, Martino, Love Midali, and Shumamshu. His muses include Stefania Sandrelli and Veronica Pivetti. Midali plans to reach ten points of sale in Spain within three years and is considering entering El Corte Inglés. His style, centered on knitwear and dresses, embraces curvy silhouettes and Pop Art influences, with recent collaborations with artist Emiliano Cavalli.
