Martina Melilli's 'My Home, in Libya' Premieres at Locarno Festival
Italian filmmaker Martina Melilli (born 1987) premiered her debut feature 'My Home, in Libya' at the 71st Locarno Festival in the Fuori Concorso section. The film, produced by Turin-based Stefilm and German ZDF in collaboration with Arte and Rai Cinema, with support from MIBACT and Piemonte Doc Film Fund, traces the history of her grandparents Antonio and Narcisa, who fled Libya after Gaddafi's 1970 coup. Melilli uses footage from her grandparents' home near Padua and collaborates with a young Libyan contacted via social media to gather current images of Tripoli. The work blends multimedia present-day images with past photographs, exploring fragmented memory and collective history. Melilli previously won the 2017 ArteVisione award for her video 'Mum I'm Sorry'.
