Martin Wong's Brick Popeye at PPOW
PPOW in Tribeca is showing 'Martin Wong: Popeye,' a posthumous exhibition of the artist's brick-themed cartoon works. Six motorized plywood panels depict Popeye as architectural brick forms. The show includes 'The Most Beautiful Painting in the World' (1989) featuring Mutt and Jeff in brick, and 'Untitled (Little Lulu and Tubby)' (c. 1989) with castle-turret figures.
