Martin Parr's 'Grand Hotel Parr' Transforms Neues Museum into a Hotel of Photobooks
The Neues Museum in Nuremberg will host 'Grand Hotel Parr', a retrospective of Martin Parr's work organized around his photobooks, opening October 24. The exhibition, created in collaboration with the PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne, features approximately 250 titles spread across a reception, Reading Lounge, Bar, Souvenir Shop, and thematic rooms. Parr, born in Epsom in 1952, sees the photobook as the most direct medium for photographers to make a clear statement. The show was conceived by Markus Schaden and the PhotoBookMuseum team, not by Parr himself. Parr has recently published several books, including 'Fashion Faux Parr' (Phaidon), his visual autobiography 'Utterly Lazy and Inattentive' (September 2025), and two children's books. He emphasizes that a good photobook needs a strong idea, solid narrative, and visually overwhelming photographs, with design echoing the project's tone. The exhibition aims to demonstrate the democratic potential of the photobook as an accessible, reproducible, and shareable medium. Images are curated by Nikita Teryoshin.
