Martin Margiela's Personal Archive to Be Auctioned for First Time

market-auction · 2026-04-26

On July 9, 2026, Maurice Auction, collaborating with Kerry Taylor Auctions, will showcase more than 200 pieces from Martin Margiela's personal collection in Paris. This event is groundbreaking, as it’s the first time a living designer has teamed up with an auction house to sell their personal fashion archive, which spans from 1984 to 2008. The collection includes items from his late mother, Léa Bouchet, original sketches from 1984, Barbie outfits, and Hermès pieces from his time as creative director (1997-2003). Salomé Pirson and Alex Baddeley referred to the auction process as curatorial. Highlights include the Initiale Bag (2002) and uniquely painted silver Tabi boots. An exhibition will take place from July 4-8 at 71 rue de la Fontaine au Roi, with the catalogue released in mid-June on mauriceauction.com.
