Marta Roberti’s ‘Due Mondi’ at z2O Sara Zanin Gallery in Rome
Marta Roberti’s solo exhibition ‘Due Mondi – e io vengo dall’altro’ at z2O Sara Zanin Gallery in Rome presents three series of works created over the past three years, mostly never exhibited before. The show includes large drawings, embroideries on cotton, and drawings on carbon paper, exploring the female body, metamorphosis, and duality. Curated by Cecilia Canziani, the installation evokes ancient mural paintings, giving the gallery an archaic atmosphere. Roberti’s large drawings of female bodies reference yogic asanas inspired by the animal world, reflecting her interest in Eastern discipline—she has authored a book on yoga—and the body’s expressive potential. A new series of drawings dedicated to aquatic birds combines air and water elements. The theme of duality is investigated through double portraits and double identity, influenced by a recent trip to Egypt. Two ‘Sfingi Gheopardo’ at the entrance—one with the artist’s face, the other with her sister Anna’s—merge human and animal. The large drawing ‘Due Sorelle a confronto con il caos’ elevates the body to an archetypal figure, transcending mortality into ritual. Technically, Roberti experiments with carbon paper, black carbon paper, and colored oil papers that mimic metallic surfaces, and for the first time presents embroidered works that preserve the delicacy of drawing. The exhibition runs at z2O Sara Zanin Gallery in Rome.
