Marta Minujín retrospective opens at Pinacoteca Luz celebrating 60 years of Argentine art
Marta Minujín's exhibition 'Ao vivo' opened at Pinacoteca Luz on July 29, marking six decades of her career. The show, curated by Ana Maria Maia, features dozens of works including the 17-meter inflatable 'Escultura de los desejos' (2022). Museum director Jochen Volz noted planning began in 2018 after her inclusion in the 'Mulheres radicais' collective. Minujín's first exhibition was in 1959 at Teatro Agón in Buenos Aires when she was 16. A 1961 National Endowment for the Arts scholarship took her to Paris, where she created her first happening 'La Destrucción' in 1963. Her 1965 work 'El Batacazo' won the Instituto Di Tella prize, attracting critic Aldo Pellegrini and director Romero Brest. Between 1970-1980, she gained international recognition for performances and installations. The artist has longstanding ties to Brazil, participating in the 1978 'Poéticas visuais' at MAC USP and the 1ª Bienal Latino-Americana de São Paulo. Her 1985 photo-performance with Andy Warhol, 'argentina con maíz,' commented on Argentina's foreign debt. The exhibition runs until January 28, 2024.
