MArTA Director Eva Degl'Innocenti on Bridging Archaeology and the Present
Eva Degl'Innocenti, the director of the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MArTA), elaborates on the museum's exhibition initiative titled "Taras e Vatl" and its extensive cultural strategy. A highlight of the project is a life-sized replica of the 7th-century BCE Etruscan funerary site from Poggio Pelliccia in Vetulonia, which will be showcased at MArTA until January 9, 2022. Co-curated with Simona Rafanelli from the Museo "Isidoro Falchi" in Vetulonia, the exhibition unfolds in three parts: the Taranto display, a related exhibition in Vetulonia, and an international conference set for November 17–19 in Taranto. Degl'Innocenti underscores the museum's function as a "21st-century agora," fostering connections between archaeological heritage and modern society through programs like MartaLab and FabLab. She believes that understanding archaeology is essential for future development and that culture is a catalyst for economic growth, emphasizing collaboration with educational institutions and local partners to position the museum as a center for learning and innovation.
